The Instructors
Eric Haas-Stapleton, Ph.D., is a molecular biologist whose research interests include human diseases caused by microbial pathogens such as viruses and fungi. He taught Medical Virology for UC Berkeley Extension and laboratory sections of Comparative Virology at UC Berkeley. His current research appointment is with UC San Francisco.
Eric Lyons, M.S. (microbial biology) spent two years working in the medical sciences identifying pharmacological agents to treat human autoimmune diseases and cancers, three years in the biotechnology sector developing algorithms for genomic related problems and currently is developing novel applications for comparative genomics at UC Berkeley.
Jennifer Bragg, Ph.D., is a virologist and molecular biologist whose research interests are directed at virus diseases of plants. Her current research appointment at UC Berkeley focuses on a member of the rabies virus family. She worked four years in the biotechnology industry developing clinical assays for human diseases and therapeutics and has taught laboratory sections at UC Berkeley for General Biology and Comparative Virology.
Jan Washburn, Ph.D., is a specialist at UC Berkeley evaluating mechanisms of resistance and susceptibility in larval insects (caterpillars and mosquitoes) to infection by viruses. He teaches Ecology at UC Santa Cruz and is a current board member and past president of the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District.
